It was a big search with two helicopters and a big boat circling all around. They are still there.

the latest ...

QuoteEmergency services say that four people were swept into the sea by a wave while they were bathing in rock pools in an area known as Las Bajas, in front of the Barceló hotel in Puerto Santiago, around 5.30pm this afternoon. Helicopters, paramedics and police were all involved in the attempted rescue, but sadly two have died, a 35-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman. Information is still coming in about the two who died, as well as the other two who were swept away, and for whom the search continues.

The waves were really strong today. I can imagine how much tide was going into the the pools and then dragging out. Why anyone would go swimming in there today is unbelievable.

Emergency services have called off the search tonight for the missing bathers, thought to be two people. Air and sea resources will resume at first light. The Policía Local and Guardia Civil will be keeping a police point on land at the site.

The sea continues to be very loud and rough and high.  RIP poor people; hope they find their bodies soon for their families' sake.

0756 and the first helicopter is up.  It is one of the two which was up yesterday as far as I can tell.

Correction to the above:  It is not one of the two which were up yesterday.

I've just been for a run along the coast between Puerto Santiago and Playa la Arena.  The orange boat is back out, going up and down.

There is just the one white helicopter, and it is not majoring on the immediate area where the rock pool is like yesterday; it is even going a couple of kms out to sea, covering a much larger area.  One wonders how long they will keep this up.

The sea swells are more than twice what they were yesterday in places.  With all of the rocks and rocky outcroppings and white foam on the coastline, this is really looking for a needle in a haystack and you have to think that finding a body will be more luck than anything.
