Hot Water Tank

Good morning all. We have arrived on the lovely island of Tenerife and immediately face a requirement which we have not had before.
Our hot water 'tank' has sprung a very small leak but the small amount of water which is leaking is running down a live electrical wire (which I believe to be from either the heating element or thermostat) causing the main consumer unit to trip every time the electric to the heater is turned on.

I'm guessing a need a plumber rather than an electrician since we obviously need our tank replaced.

Does anyone have a telephone number or contact details of a reliable, trustworthy plumber please as taking cold showers isn't very appealing to me :)

Easy to say, but I think it must be very easy to replace yourself. The connections are simple, and you could buy any kind of tank yourself in Chafiras.

Edit: I watched a plumber install our hot water tank, and he charged about €100 for 30 minutes work, and  it was a doddle. I could have done it myself easily.

Yes technically very easy but, when I did it I had to walk into town twice for "bits" that I needed.

Check list:
Spanners
Thread tape
Drain hose
Drill and rawlplugs (because the fitting bracket may be different, mine was)
And probably something else. :undecided:

If it was in the UK I would not have second thoughts about replacing it myself but my supply of tools here is a little limited and the walls are not as solid as I am used to. I don't fancy a full tank of water falling off the wall due my lack of understanding of building construction in Tenerife :)

I understand fully. But the chances are that you can buy a tank identical to the one to replace. Or similar. The fittings tend to be exactly the same on these tanks, so that you could use the holes/rawlplugs already there. All you would need is an adjustable spanner for the water connections, and a screwdriver for the electrics.

I always like a challenge.....so it looks like it could be a trip to Chafiras in a few minutes then. May just go to get an idea of what's available today, assuming they're closed tomorrow it could be a job for Monday after draining the tank and taking some measurements.

Cold showers until then  :D
