Arona Ayuntamiento, sponsored by the Tenerife Cabildo, has opened registration for participation in the annual Las Galletas Half Marathon. The 18th run will be on 6 April starting at 9am from Calle Salazar González and returning to La Rambla de Las Galletas. Those who want to take part can now sign up, providing only that they're over 18 and in good health.

Despite classifications, prizes will be awarded in strict order of arrival independent of category. The course for the half marathon is 21.97.5km on the route TF 6222, TF 6225 and TF 6221, with carriageways closed for traffic during the race. There will also be a shorter race of 10.8km at the same time along the same route.

Places are limited to 1,000 runners, and registration is open until 31 March via the official website HERE, or in the Complejo Polideportivo 'Jesús Domínguez El Grillo' in Los Cristianos, Guzmán Sport in La Laguna, or Mundi Sport in Puerto de la Cruz. Registration will cost €18, or €15 for affiliates, if before 22 March, those registering between 23 and 31 March will pay €25, or €22 for affiliates.

For any further information, either see the official website via the link above, or call 010 within Arona, or 922 761 600 if outside the municipality.

We're entered.  Someone please examine my head.

I am pleased that this year, for the first time, it cost 5€ less to enter the 10.8km.  Previously both that and the 21.1km were 18€ each - pretty steep for a 10k race.

Beers will be consumed upon completion.

The race is this Sunday, and Arona Ayto has announced widespread road closures and parking restrictions for the race (link), which will see runners complete one or two circuits of the road from Las Galletas to El Fraile, up to the Palm Mar roundabout, back along past Camping Nauta to Guargacho, and then turn downhill back to Las Galletas. Good luck to all who are taking part, and I hope there's a good turnout for the event to offer the runners support. JA
