And this week's coloured alert will be for  . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (tension mounts) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . wind.

Michael

It's the alerts in this country that make me  ::).

Amber alert for heavy rain.

In N.Ireland, in November? Well who'd have thought?  ::)
[countdown=01,06,2021,13,30][/countdown] until I return to Tenerife!

We are in a cloud, it is raining, 16 degrees with gusty winds.  We have only had 1.8mm of rain so far.  If I have figured it out correctly, school was not cancelled around here.

Janet

school's only cancelled in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, despite god knows how many rumours to the contrary!! :D

Guanche

Blustery high winds and rain, started about 3am this morning. 20deg low cloud but bright. So the sun is up there somewhere!

Janet

And now the government has issued a "total closure" for all schools in the Canaries from 1.45pm because of the red alert, and its own maximum alert, for winds.

I see we are getting gusts up to 60kph although the wind is not whistling through like it often does.

Janet

AENA says that 23 flights, and all inter-island flights, have been cancelled from TFN Los Rodeos. TFS is currently operating normally, changes to that situation will be advised. Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura are also operating, but Lanzarote and La Palma airports are not operational.

Janet

The main winds will be coming from 7pm and will batter us until 7am or so. It's nine years to the day since tropical storm Delta was here. Then, the strongest wind ever registered in Spain was registered in Izaña near the observatory - 248 km/h! Hopefully it won't be quite that bad this time.

Unlike in 2002 when five people died in a storm, there were no deaths in Tenerife from Delta (though one man died in Fuerteventura), but there was widespread physical damage to the island's infrastructure, particularly electrics. And already today a pylon has been bent double in Santa Ursula in north Tenerife. Let's hope that by the end of tomorrow things are no worse than they are presently, and that everyone has remained safe.

I parked my car in the rough car park in Las Galletas this morning.  Does anyone know what I mean by that huge advertising board that stands in the corner of that car park by the traffic lights?  When I returned to my car that board had blown over, missing my car by about three foot!!!

Janet, do you really mean the winds will get worse than this??  This is horrendous  :windy:
If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know amazing.
