A 34-year-old British man drowned yesterday afternoon while bathing in the Los Llanos de Aridane municipality of La Palma. Emergency services were called with reports that the poor man was in difficulties, and that he had been pulled from the water by those aboard a private boat, to which a lifeguard had swum out in order to try to resuscitate him. A helicopter was scrambled and he was airlifted from the boat with paramedics taking over resuscitation attempts, but it was all to no avail and he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A meteorological site I follow says that this death is because of the heavy swell caused by Tropical Storm Nadine. I'm not sure they can ascribe it so certainly to that cause, but it's possible, of course.
