Public prosecutor starts investigation proceedings into Bankia

The public prosecutor has started proceedings to investigate if any procedural crimes were committed when Bankia was constituted in 2011 with the fusion of Caja Madrid, Bancaja, Caja Insular de Canarias, Caja Laietana, Caja Ávila, Caja Segovia and Caja Rioja.

The anticorruption proceedings were started on 28 May and the Fiscalía has requested various documents both from this bank and the Bank of Spain, said the fiscal general, Eduardo Torres-Dulce, in a press interview earlier.
