Hiker dies in Punta del Hidalgo

A hiker said to be a foreigner in Spain died just before 1pm this afternoon after falling on the Chinamada to Punta del Hidalgo walk. Emergency services were called out with reports that the man was unconscious and in an area with very difficult access. Search and rescue helicopters, bomberos, and paramedics were all involved in the rescue operation, and the bomberos who found him tried to resuscitate him from what appears to have been a heart attack, but without success, despite additional telephone advice of a doctor in the emergency hub in Santa Cruz.
