A 22-year-od British woman's hike was more exciting than she probably expected earlier today when a helicopter was despatched to collect her in difficult terrain after she had sprained her ankle while walking in the Las Calzadas area of Arico. Emergency services were alerted to the incident shortly after 1pm when they were called with reports that the woman had fallen and could not continue on foot. Bomberos tried to reach her but she was finally evacuated by helicopter and flown to the Adeje helipad, and then transferred by ambulance to Hospiten Sur. JA

Under the new 'rescue' rules could this hike prove expensive? :undecided:

Janet

Yes, if they deem her to have been reckless, or not to have taken due precautions ...

Will be interesting to see any detail, if any's released ... I've known a 20-odd-year-old British woman climb Roque del Conde in flipflops ...  ::)
