Puerto de la Cruz Ayuntamiento's health department has issued a tap water warning to Las Arenas, San Antonio, Taoro and Las Dehesas. These areas have been told not to consume water "until at least Monday 30th" when new more exhaustive microbiological analysis results will be available. The incident arises from the fall of a cover from one of the La Vera drinking water tanks. Health councillor Antonia Domínguez said that prevention was better than cure and that  the official warning has been issued despite initial tests showing optimal quality. JA

The Las Arenas, San Antonio, Taoro and Las Dehesas areas of Puerto de la Cruz are still under warning not to drink tap water. Sanidad has authorized Aqualia, the area's water supplier, to carry out necesssary repair works to the La Vera installation, and says it will take further water samples for analysis once the works are finished. It's a couple of weeks now since a tap water warning was issued to the La Vera, Las Arenas, San Antonio, Taoro and Las Dehesas areas of Puerto de la Cruz, and the situation still seems to be generally unclear. Yesterday afternoon, Aqualia installed four water tanks for residents affected by the restriction on drinking water, one in each of the affected areas. They are placed at the plaza de Las Adelfas in Las Dehesas, the sports centre in San Antonio, the camino de La Sortija in Taoro, and the plaza de la Casa Azul in Las Arenas: water has been available from them since 7.30pm last evening for residents' use. It appears that the restriction now depends on the repair of the La Vera reservoir in La Montaña and the construction of a bypass pipe to carry its water to the four areas. Technicians are to come from the mainland to co-ordinate the project and to attempt to resolve the problem as soon as possible. JA
