Last year was the first Carrera de Montaña de Guía de Isora – Vida Trail in Guía de Isora, and following its success – more than 300 runners took part – the Ayuntamiento's sports department is again collaborating with Vida Trail to organize the second race. It looks set to become an annual event, and the council says it hopes once again to promote healthy activities and to bring the beauty and culture of the municipality's less well-known areas to a wider public.

The run will take place on 2 March and will pass through the villages of the medianías of Guía de Isora, namely Aripe, Chirche, El Jaral, Vera de Erques, Tejina, Acojeja, and Las Fuentes. There are two race courses, one of 25 and another of 15 kilometres; there is also a walkers' course. Spectators are also most welcome along the route. There is more information on the routes HERE. Those taking part will need to sign up: click HERE to do so – there are different inscription fees starting at €5 for the walkers. For further information, there is a dedicated website HERE.

Well, you can count me out.  Do you have any idea how many hills there are in this area?

Besides I'm saving myself for Las Galletas on the 7th of April so this one would interfere with my training.

The official poster is now below, and we have the extra detail that the race starts at 9.30am from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, which is outside the cultural centre on centre on the main road through Guía de Isora.

We got a flier from the police the other day.  There will be no parking on our street from the day before at 1500 until 1600 on race day.  They will be coming down our road so we can cheer them on.

Neither of these runs go anywhere near Vera, it seems to me according to their ridiculous maps. Yet in the village they are preparing to close a road. It's pouring with rain at the moment with worse to come, so at least they won't overheat. But the going must surely be dangerous when it's so wet.

I agree about the maps, but the wording did say it would be coming through the vilage ...

This is, though, at a time of government alert with a warning sheet issued advising people not to leave home. How can they let the run continue?

Well, guys, it's ON.  Cones have been placed all along our road to prohibit parking (everybody has cleared off already anyway).  The cops are parked outside our house and all of the traffic seems to be cops racing up and down the road.  I expect the runners to come through any time from 11.15, though more likely it will be a bit later.

There are 115 registered for the 25km run, of which I can identify 5 women.  Not all of the runners were confirmed as having paid so we could see as few as 90.  That is, if everybody didn't wake up early and decide to stay in bed.

We were socked in completely an hour ago but it has completely cleared and is a gloriously beautiful day.

What a crazy race.  Part of the course is on our daily walk with the dogs so we were able to spot the runners as they ran cross country through a barranco.  They ran down our dirt mountain road which is in even worse shape since the rain last night.  The cops had put down cones in the parking lane so they could safely run down our road before going off-road again.  Make no mistake, these boys are fit.  Well done to Guía for organising the race.

This has just been run again this year, and perhaps more for my and the turtle's benefit than anyone, here are some photos from Guía de Isora press office. They'll be recognizable to anyone who's been to my house, and in fact I was out yesterday morning just as they had put the cones down before the run started. I wondered what they were doing! One photo in particular will be familiar to the turtle.  :tiphat:

Thanks Janet, and that's right!

Two of our neighbour boys are in the photo - they stayed with the local cops for over three hours yesterday.  And our house is in one shot!  Hurray for us!

Well done to all the runners and participants.
