The environmental argument is that it's better not to cut down a tree, but the pines come from managed commercial forests so there's not an environmental benefit in that sense. There's probably a cost advantage with a conical one because it needs less care and disposal, and fewer decorations ...

Some of the ones I've seen have been really quite nice, but they never feel like a Christmas tree ... :shrug:

It was just lovely to see a Christmas tree in a public area in Tenerife as I'd never seen one before. The illuminated tree looked good in the dark on web cam. It may have looked completely wrong in the daylight :shrug:
