Quite a bit in the papers this morning about a PP (conservative) councillor in Santa Cruz who was caught red handed with a mobile while driving. Actually she was at traffic lights and was so engrossed with the phone that she failed to notice the lights changed ... or the police car which had pulled up alongside her.

I'm a councillor, she said, you can't fine me ... haven't you got anything better to do, like "enforcing laws". Um ...

Speechless the police ... and then an argument on the pavement where she tried to pull rank and get them to speak to the mayor, threats if they fined her, the whole thing witnessed by an offduty officer ...

What clearer example does one need of these people believing they are above the law?

Perikles is just watching TV and has said that there was an item about this on the news, with the comment that there's a Guardia Civil internal memo saying that if they stop a politician, they're not allowed to arrest without clearing it with a superior police officer first.
