damn, yes, that was right, sorry mac.

It's a really decent place though, superb location!

Yup Agree, my negative comment, lacks some greenery, and very very touristy.

Janet

yeah but yeah but ... it's right on the Golden Mile, a few minutes stroll away from the noisiest parts so not loud, right by the gorgeous restaurants near the fountain ... @marbro8 has been to The Empire so that's one @Anne 2009 could very easily go to! And right next to it are the gorgeous old Slowboat (now the TaiPan or something), and the Bianco Italian restaurant, and the Thai Botanico! ... and  there's a Monkey Bar nearby, and the Magic Bar opposite ...

and of course that's after starting out with cocktails in Harry's Bar overlooking the fountain ...

and then there's Scampi's for fish and chips ...

... and the Pyramid for a flamenco show ...

and it's right on the beach ...

and designer shops galore in the commercial centres, and the maze of fun shops to stroll around under Parque Santiago 3 ...

and, thinking about it, the best Chinese restaurant IN SPAIN at the end of the Golden Mile, the Khong Tsha (or whatever) ... just come out of Compostella Beach, turn left and keep walking to the end, and it's on the left ...

if I were going on holiday, I tell you, I would choose that area over El Duque ...

edit: and don't forget also to turn right out of the hotel, around the little dog leg road, and on to San Telmo, a row of bars, cafés and restaurants all overlooking Playa de las Vistas, some with the most wonderful vibe, and food ....

Nova

When my family come over we always go to the Thai Botanico, and when I lived in Las Galletas it was easy to bus in and taxi back so we could have a couple of cocktails at Harry's.  I agree with Janet.  As much as I hate touristy areas and crowds and noise, that really is the place to be and it's lovely to sip a cocktail while watching the fountain dance  :great:
If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know amazing.

Yes it is a superb location, we stayed there a few years ago with the family. Probably the worst holiday our family ever had in tenerife :03:. my sister in law hired one of the villas, and unfortunately the villa next door had about 10 youths staying in it, there was fighting and loud party's every night, until they had had enough and after complaining about 6 times to management, they informed them that one more incident and they would be thrown off. It wouldn't have been so bad, but all their parents were staying on there as well, in the apartments well away from their kids :017:. our apartment although dated, was in a superb location, over the top of the buzz bar and scampies. Sorry to post that @Anne 2009. it was about 10 years ago so i am sure it is nowhere near as bad as that now ;)

Anne 2009

I've stayed at the compostella about 10 times. Always private rent from the same person. No messing with a taxi as they pick us up from the airport and take us back at the end of our holiday. I like the area as it's central for everything and the schools will be back when we get there so it's never too busy at that time. I agree with you @Janet  and @Nova there are some really good restaurants and lovely cocktail bars. A couple of the ones you have mentioned, i have yet to try so they will go on my list for this trip. I don't know  how far this is from you all, but it would be lovely to meet up again if possible. Anyone else going over to Tenerife at the same time?

Yep the empire is very much fine dining, with the average main meal about €20. And there are a number of nice restaurants right underneath, friends bar being the best, their tandoori chicken is to die for :yummy:, you must book at both of these, and friends 2 is only a couple of doors away, same owner same menu. if you like your food typically british, then the steak pie and the fish and chips at surfers next door is unbeatable. Of the bars mentioned by @Janet down on san telmo, players lounge is my favorite, again typical british fayre, but the view from the patio while the sun goes down ;)

Anne 2009

The water melon at san telmo do lovely food and cocktails.

When was the last time you stayed there @Anne 2009 ? because they were building another beach as you come to the end of the run of bars and turn right, towards the sir anthony, should be finished when you next go. We are there from the 30th september for 2 weeks.
