Travesía a nado - bay swim - between Playa La Arena and Puerto Santiago Saturday 8 July

Many coastal resorts hold a Travesía a nado – a competitive swim across the bay – and the next one is between Playa La Arena and Playa de El Bajío in Puerto Santiago on Saturday next week, 8 July. It is the 22nd time the travesia has been held and those who want to take part can register before 3 July for €10 HERE, the main website where there is full information of the event. For the rest of us, we can just turn up on the Saturday to join the crowds who will be there to watch the 950m swim, which starts at 5pm with the first of the groups who will be taking part.

Ok I don't mind looking daft when the situation demands.

The only beach I know of in Puerto Santiago is Playa Chica. Where the hell is Playa de El Bajío?

I looked in Google maps and they indicated someplace near Garachico.  I don't think so.

could it be an old (or official) name for Playa Chica? The council has used that name for all the travesias in previoius years (though they did use Playa Chica when talking about the Noche de San Juan bonfire ... )

Possibly I suppose. Although the various signs down here all point to 'Playa Chica'.

Bit like trying to find El Camison beach in Las Americas/Los Cristianos, most people have never heard of it.

I've seen them finishing this swim in Playa Chica. It is very crowded at the end of the race!

I think could be a case of some old bloke in SdT Cultura who knew it like that before it ever became Playa Chica ... and no Francoist is going to make him change the name he's always known it by ...
