King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia are in the Canaries for a couple of days, starting today in Gran Canaria and then moving on to Tenerife tomorrow. It's the first time the couple have visited the islands as King and Queen.

In Tenerife, they will visit Santa Cruz, going first to the Cabildo to learn about social projects and to meet with organizations and businesses involved in promoting employment, and then to the Canarian Government for an official lunch in their honour given by Canarian President Fernando Clavijo, followed by meetings with business leaders and arts and sports representatives.

Later, they will move on to the University of La Laguna where they will visit laboratories of the Tropical Illnesses Institute and the Maths Faculty, where the King will take part in a ceremony celebrating the University's 225th anniversary.

well it all went off smoothly enough! Thought I'd pass on that for lunch they had savoury bites followed by cherne fillet, then squid casserole with papas antiguas de Tenerife, all with Canarian wines*. Pudding was a cured Fuerteventura goats cheese sponge with guava and butter biscuits.

*The Canarian wines, in case you would like to emulate royalty! were:

Trevejos 2015, sparkling rosé from Abona
Paisajes de la Isla 2015, white from La Gomera
Can 2015, red from La Orotava
Bermejo Malvasía Dulce from Lanzarote
