Clio O'Flynn, Adeje Communications Officer, is herself Irish, and as she says, Friday, 17 March, is the day when the wearing of the green is practically obligatory – if you're Irish that is. And according to the experts, over 80 million people worldwide claim to be – in part at least, and more than a few are living in Adeje. And once again, of course, the Plaza de España at the top of Calle Grande will be wearing the green itself!

The celebration of St Patrick is for everyone, however, probably the most internationally celebrated national saint's day in the world. And given the fact that the man himself was Welsh, not Irish, he is also a symbol of integration through emigration. So where better to celebrate this year that in the town that is also a celebration of multi-culturalism and integration – Adeje!

At 6pm on the evening of March 17th the Adeje statue of St Patrick will be handed over to representatives of the Irish community on the steps of the Convento, beside the Town Hall. From there it will brought to the church where a mass in English and Spanish will be held from 7pm, with singing by the municipal choir.

Down on the coast there'll be a "green train", with the traditional tourist train decked out in Irish livery to deliver people to events and places specifically celebrating the day. The train will run on a loop between 1 and 6pm from the church next to the Guardia Civil in Playa de las Américas - next to the tax office opposite the Green Hospital.

On St Patrick's Eve, Thursday 16th, there will be a Gala buffet dinner in the CDTCA, the Adeje Centre for Tourism Development (near the main roundabout as you enter the town, opposite the El Galeón secondary school). There'll be some dancing beforehand, excellent company, and a bar and disco afterwards: the evening starts at 7.30 and is hosted by the Honorary Irish Consul in collaboration with the Adeje Town Hall. There are still some tickets left  - ring the Irish Consul (922245671) between 9am - 1pm to reserve your place.

There's something Irish about St. Patrick's Day being 16th and 17th March.  :giggle:
