More evidence that the world is fucking nuts:banghead: :banghead:

There was outrage in the church when the drag queen winner was some disgusting outfit depicting some poofter on the cross. Outrage that the entry was allowed, and outrage that the arsehole actually won. Fair enough, I thought - tasteless in the extreme.

Now guess what. The Bishop of the Canaries has said that his saddest day up until now had been the Spanair accident in which 154 people died. Now he claims this act of blasphemy was even sadder.

And these idiots wonder why people are leaving the church.

:link: - have a look at the piccies .

I think that there are very good reasons why this is shocking, outrageous, and offensive, and for the winner to claim, as he has, that he just wanted "controversy" rather than to offend is either evidence of his self-absorbed exhibitionist insanity or a straightforward lie.

If this had been Islam, heads would have rolled by now ... and I mean that literally! I've actually signed the petition (for all the good that will do) asking for some sort of political intervention in this, but really that's not needed because it's already political, with pronouncements even from the Tenerife President today (he said he was all for the "violations of social norms" that carnival was all about but that this was just wilful offensiveness that went way beyond "challenging").

I'm not remotely religious in the churchy sense, and think that all religions should be challenged, and severely! ... but this is gratuitous and insulting to cause direct hurt to those who do have a belief. There must be SOME respect somewhere for people's sensitivities.

As for the Bishop, he performed to my expectations ...

Here are a couple of pics. Few things make me draw a sharp intake of breath, but these did.

I guess I've become desensitised.  I don't find those pictures shocking.  I think he looks like a ridiculous idiot and his use of a crucifix is clearly trying to be outrageous, but my response was to roll my eyes and wonder what on earth makes him think anyone wants to see his crotch....

yes I get that, and I wasn't "shocked", but appalled at the disrespect.

What a pillock! That's an even better reason to nail someone to the cross  :tool:

I agree with people being able to choose and follow their own religion as long as it doesn't affect others and I treat these beliefs with respect. This is gratuitously shocking and in no way respectful.

I'd cheerfully shoot this clown myself....

I'm not in any way churchy. I've never attended church and I doubt I ever will. I'm not even keen on them for weddings etc, but I have a great deal of respect for those who are prepared to go. I get a sense of old fashioned decency when I see them going to church on a Sunday.

There can be no good reason for knowingly disrespecting them. It's not on.

As for the Bishop, I guess we all have differing ideas as to what's important and to him, this was indeed a tragedy. He's just expressing his opinion. I even understand it to a degree. They treat death differently. To a religious person, death is just another step. I'm not saying they make light of it but I don't think they see it as being tragic as such.....

Maybe I'm wrong?......... :tiphat:

no I don't think you're wrong, @TOTO 99, and I said something very similar to Perikles earlier. If the Bishop sees a plane full of Catholic souls go down, then his belief system means that it's god's will, and the souls will go to heaven, hopefully, or hell if they've damned themselves. It's god's will in action, whereas this is wilful disrespect of the whole belief system.

Totally agree with you, toto.

Yes, they would have.  And within a few weeks, Islamic terrorists would go and murder a bunch of innocent people in retaliation.  I have no time for Christianity but at least its adherents do not go on murderous rampages like muslims do.  Not politically correct, but there you go.
