I know a lot of the original members, but don't know the newcomers so well, nor their circumstances, so thought it might be a good idea - just in case - to post the information that the Spanish taxman is going after undeclared rental income on property in Spain, including Tenerife obviously.

Not casting a single aspersion! Nor trying for an "illegal letting" thread (we do have one somewhere, as it happens, but it's not been much used lately!) ... but in case anyone's affected, or interested, and didn't know ...

QuoteProperty owners who let out have something else to worry about now apart from a possible fine from Turismo for those who are letting illegally. With the start of the 2015 tax return period, the Agencia Tributaria is carrying out a particular campaign targeting those who fail to declare their rental income. The campaign at least in part involves finding adverts placed on the internet, and then assessing and comparing the property with other factors to determine if it is actually occupied more than claimed. Agencia Tributaria chief Rufino de la Rosa will not go into detail about how the tax authorities are going to tie all the information up, but says that around half of all rentals in Spain are undeclared for tax purposes, and that this is fraud, a very serious legal offence.

They do. I pay tax on my apartment yearly because I am a non-resident. I think it is tax for a supposed rental even though I do not let out my apartment.

Yes we also pay yearly even though we don't let it out.
