But Michael wasn't anywhere near the coast if that was the route he took on the map.

Told you cant get in or out Palm mar without a car ..... :)
Brave walking there :) its like a speed cercuid .....

Janet

but there IS a bus service now to Palm Mar!! OK it works to its own timetable, and there will be times when the timetable isn't to everyone's convenience, but there's a timetable, and one has to work around it. That is how timetables operate, and anyone who wants a vehicle on demand either needs to have a car or get a taxi.

By their nature, buses run at particular times, and those who use them organize themselves around those times. Palm Mar might have more restrictions than some, but it does have a bus service! It won't be any different anywhere else! The only places where there will be such a wide choice of buses and routes to make timetables irrelevant are those which have major terminals ... and in south and west Tenerife terms, that means Los Cristianos or Guía de Isora.

Absolutely Janet!  Especially when you're not commuting to work every day, it's just a case of being organised and planning which bus you need to catch.  If anyone walks from Palm Mar to El Fraile on a weekday, it's because they want to.   Even if the bus gets you there an hour early, I'd rather spend 10 minutes on the bus and an hour having coffee or mooching round, than have to spend an hour and a half on the bus.
If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know amazing.

Come on, a bus at 9 in the morning, then nothing till after 1 in the afternoon, and the last one around 4, given the best will in the world, you can't really work your life around that. I know I have said this before, you cannot live in Palm Mar without a car!

FFS, that's more than twice the number of buses that serve the Cheshire village where I grew up...

Except where he started and where he finished.

I would go as far as to say categorically that you cannot live any semblance of a normal life anywhere at all in the south of Tenerife without a car.

For you, I and other working people, that's absolutely correct.  However, there are many retired people living here who manage perfectly well with the buses - thrive on them even - and are happy to do so because they have made the choice not to drive here.  It's a simple enough choice, if you want transport on demand you get a car, if you don't want a car you get the buses and organise yourself to their timetables.  If you don't want to do that you get a car.  Any regular bus-catchers will tell you, on a weekday there is no need to walk to El Fraile from Palm Mar, you just have to organise yourself enough to catch the bus that will get you there on time.
