Many policies allow the holder to drive any car....

That wasn't the question Del :)

For example, if one were a named driver on someone else's policy in the UK and were loaned a car in Tenerife that person wouldn't have a UK policy to cover them to drive the car in Tenerife, hence my original question.

Janet is probably covered to drive it TPF&T on her own policy .

Not in any car but her own she won't be  :tiphat:  Like you said in your first post, it's the car the policy is assigned to, not the driver.

Isn't Audi a posh name for Volkswagen?  :finger2:   :giggle:

Isn't it VW that install software that lies about their emissions?

OK so if the owner says it's OK the driver won't get 'done'? Are we all agreed that in Tenerife it is the car that it insured (normally) albeit with some insurers only covering it with a / the specified driver behind the wheel.

I stand to be corrected by Perikles when he reads this, but I thought our policy for our car just named the two of us and no-one else ...

'tis true. We can't lend it to anybody.

Now you can see why I asked.

We were offered a car to borrow when we were over in, I think it was March, and I wanted to clarify if as the driver I would get done for driving with no insurance if I was stopped....before taking the risk.

Is that by choice (maybe to reduce your premium) or imposed by the insurance company as Nova mentions in an earlier post?

The premium is lower if we have named drivers only. The difference is really not much (€20? in €250?), and possibly not all companies do it, so my guess is that the norm is any driver over 25 with valid licence. Living where we do, we couldn't think of a situation in which we would want somebody to drive our car.
