Well I think that the realisation that it's a total country wide fuck up by the Government and the banks has just surfaced. The BIL has just rung me to say that there has been a news report that no accounts will be blocked in any Spanish bank until the 8th of May. I can't verify this as I didn't see the news myself, but I could hear his wife in the background and I trust her with my life. So breathing space!

Nova

An email was forwarded round our place showing an exchange that took place this lunchtime between a branch manager who had seen that report in the press and whoever-it-was higher up.  "Higher up" insisted that the reports were untrue and today really is the last day.

It's like playing Minesweeper with your computer's monitor turned off, isn't it...  :giggle:
If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know amazing.

I have to ask, is there any institution, public or private that works for the interest of the people of Spain and Spain it's self. In my limited experience Spain is like an idiot with a loaded gun. You just know that it will never hit the target and will in the end shoot it's self in the foot!!

BBVA has realized it can't get everything done in time (um, couldn't get ... ) ... and gave itself a week's grace. That was reported in the press. Then the government overruled them and said it wasn't in the plan and they had no authority to overstep the 1 May deadline ...

As I say, the interest of the people, or the strong arm of the Government. By this information the public seem to be kicked to one side as totally unimportant in the battle between the banks and the government. Will the government suffer, no. Will the banks suffer, no. Will the innocent public suffer...........as always, this is a disgrace and just shows that the dictators are well and truly in charge.

I think you just need to change banks, most other banks did it ages ago. I bet you could find one now that would give you a good mortgage rate.

I think it's not as simple as it sounds Prof. Its, as I understand, an expensive exercise involving lawyers and the like and a bill of many hundreds of Euro's.  :undecided: My daughter has sent copies of the info required and I will go back to the bank with my BIL and he can take them to task, sadly my Spanish isn't anywhere good enough to do that.

Sadly the bank staff will face the brunt of the public's anger when people find they can't get their money. Heads should roll for this but I won't hold my breath!

The bank staff in the BBVA are going to get it big time when the wife gets back  :gonnagetit:, not sure if it's good enough for an official denuncia but we'll see. I just got off the phone with the wife who told me that she personally asked a member of the staff about our daughter status over this about a month ago. She was told 'No there is no need as she isn't living in Spain'!!! Twice the wife asked at the bank (unknown to me). And once on the bloody phone line to someone in the Peninsular.

Incompetence beyond belief. :91:

Totally irrelevant because this was verbal, and the bank will of course deny it. Never do anything with a bank without having it in writing, which they will never do, of course.

Your probably right P. But there is some circumstantial evidence as the idiot talking to the wife at the time had our details up on the screen which of course includes our daughters name. If they had given us the correct advice then, this problem would not have arisen. The fact that all three of the employees had the same information in front of them and all three failed to give the correct info is, is, is, is ............XX&%$XX?¿$$!!!!!!!!!
