Fibre-optic connections at last in South Tenerife

A couple of neighbours in Tenerife have recently had fibre internet installed and one tested his speed yesterday advising that it was 28Mb down and 4Mb up. This is on a claimed 'up to 25Mb' service

It would therefore appear that it is worth going to a fibre connection at the moment in tenerife, if available, although it remains to be seen how long the speeds remain at this level of course.

The other interesting thing is unlike the UK, where it is only FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet) when connecting fibre on our complex the fibre is actually being routed right into the property and terminated next to the modem/router thusly there is no speed drop over copper on the final leg.

Funnily enough I've received an SMS from Movistar just this morning to say that work has begun to install fibre in our complex  :great:

They pulled the fibre into our complex a couple of weeks ago while we were there. We returned to the UK before they completed it but but it appeared to go in very quickly. I'm guessing it may take a little longer in your complex @Nova due to it's design.

You can actually get FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) in some areas, speeds up to 300Mbs, but it isn't cheap!

I commissioned the installation of FTTP at a previous place of work and guessed you must be able to have it residentially if prepared to pay for it but my point is this appears to be 'standard' in Tenerife.

You're correct, FTTP is not cheap.

I've booked fibre installation into our apartment for next week. I'll let you all know if it goes as planned and the speed once installed....assuming they turn up of course :)

I'm hoping I'll have fibre when I get back. Movistar haven't contacted my mobile about it though  :undecided:

Apparently so, but as long as it's installed in my complex by the time I get back I can wait a few days for the guys to come round.
