Aggressive bloody marketing call

They've started again!  All phones switched off again  :banghead:

These people seem to think it's Jazztel.  This site just confirms it's a Jazztel-provided phone number.  I might plug my phone back in and ask who they are, not that they wanted to answer that question yesterday.  The only answer I could get was Castilla y Leon, which I suspect is their physical location rather than the name of any company.

As the prof says, the law on marketing calls requires them to identify themselves ... without your asking, actually. I'd go with the prof, get one on the phone and ask direct "are you jazztel", and then "thanks for confirming, I'm now going to denounce you for not identifying yourself ... " ...

does your phone record??

Nova

My landline doesn't record, no, my mobile does but it always seems fiddly to set up.  I also don't want to answer my mobile to them because that would confirm they have the correct mobile number.  I will plug my landline back in and ask them

This only puts the problem off, surely? Their calling mechanism is automated, so it doesn't bother them if it rings for a year without your answering it. You might as well deal with it today  :great:

I'm not so sure it is automated, not when I could hear the woman I spoke to repeating what I said to her colleague so her colleague could write it down.  When the colleague wanted clarification I heard her ask the woman I was speaking to before the woman repeated the question to me.  From that I deduce that they're really not very high-tech.  My phone has been back on for about 20 minutes now and still nothing.  I will answer it next time they call though.

it's automated in the calling sense ... they're on multidial so it just rings and rings all numbers in quick succession, then the callcentre staff log into whichever one comes up first as soon as they're free, which is why when people answer there is sometimes a silence while the worker sees it's there and clicks into it. In that short few seconds I've hung up ...

Interesting development. The woman just called again, so I said I'm not interested in proceeding. She asked why and I said because I don't want to change company. She said I wasn't changing company, just tariff, that all she was offering me was a discount. I asked so which company are you calling from then? And she replied "the offer we were talking about yesterday". I repeated "which company are you phoning from?"  She said "Castilla y Leon". I said "is that the name of the company?"  She said "no, the company is Telefonica-Movistar". I said "no you're not because I phoned Movistar after speaking to you yesterday and they knew nothing about your call or your offer". She replied "that's because each area has its own offers. I'm calling from Castilla y Leon".  I said again "well I'm not interested, thank you" and she said "well I'm very sorry about that, goodbye".

Hopefully that's the end of it.

Today I had a missed call on my mobile and put the number into the site I recommended to Nova.  The number is 911981114.  Sure enough, I got a hit which you can see here :link:

Like a lot of the commenters, I had my phone with me and did not hear it ring.  A lot of them said it either did not ring or rang for only a short time. If I am reading the comments correctly most people think it is a scam to get you to phone a premium number back.  Although it could be useful to learn some new vocabulary, I am not going to sweat the finer details of the comments.

Besides I picked up colgar earlier today from Prof's rotary dial telephone video so I am ahead of the game.
