I was waiting for this to happen. Not that I was wishing it, but sooner or later it was bound to happen. My only real question is why the hell wasn't this boat spotted before land fall? That's the big question.

Not wishing to side with the authority's here, but what were they supposed to do? IMHO it was quit reasonable to keep these people isolated on the beach. Which is better on the beach or walking them up to the nearest road where the public have access and the immigrants could do a runner? Where else could they go? A fleet of police vehicles would have been needed or ambulances all of which would have to be taken off the road while they were cleaned. Not to mention who was going to drive them. Where does the protective clothing come from ? It all takes time.
The lorry was a good idea. the driver didn't have contact with them and the back could be easily cleaned, unlike a bus that would have been a cleaning night mare. Would you get on a bus with cloth seats knowing that a person possibly infected with Ebola had sat on? I wouldn't.

No the real question is my first. Why the hell wasn't this boat spotted out at sea. The problems would have been much the same but it would have allowed the authorities much more time to get things in place. This was a PR triumph for the Islands wasted.

Couldn't agree more, P, and that's what Pres. Rivero is saying, as part of putting the blame on Madrid.

BUT ... he's been quick enough before now to say the protocols, vehicles, hazmat suits, everything, the bloody works, are all in place, ready, cos the Canaries are brilliant ...

OH said he read they were being taken away for deportation.  Hope that is true - that would be Canarian preparedness.

And extend this graph to the world Prof! One can only wonder at the motives of the UN and the WHO in all but declaring this outbreak a 'Extinction event' ?
