Apparently the next batch of the drug ZMapp, which they used to cure the British guy, is not due to be ready until December and that will be enough for 60 - 80 people.

The US has its first case. A man travelled from Liberia and presented with feverish symptoms ... and was sent home with antibiotics. He's now in isolation but that dismissal when he first went to hospital means that in the meantime he's mixed with an unknown number of people ...

I'm betting they don't even reach 5 deaths in the whole of the USA. Odds anyone?

Dallas Ebola patient 'fighting for his life,' CDC head says.

QuoteA top federal health official said Sunday that a man being treated for Ebola in a Dallas hospital is "fighting for his life," and he expressed confidence that the infection would not spread broadly to others through people with whom the patient has been in contact.

Oh why did he have to say that.

The first "out of Africa" contraction of ebola has taken place ... in Spain.

QuoteA Spanish nurse who treated an Ebola victim in Madrid is thought to be the first person to have contracted the virus outside Africa, health officials say.

The nurse tested positive for Ebola in initial tests and doctors are awaiting final results, according to reports.

She was part of the team that treated Spanish priest Manuel Garcia Viejo, who died of Ebola on 25 September.

Thanks for that.  I saw the same story covered in the DM and it made no sense at all.  In their version the nurse had already died!

and now nurse's husband is in isolation ... and the EU has demanded an explanation from Spain as to how this happened ...

Janet

just to keep it all up to date, I've just posted this HERE:

QuoteOver the last couple of months, a Spanish priest, Miguel Pajares, and missionary, Manuel García Viejo, died from ebola after being repatriated from Liberia and Sierra Leone respectively, where they had contracted the disease. The priest was the first European to die in this current outbreak.

There was a fright last month in Tenerife when a Nigerian who had been arrested developed a fever and a nose bleed. Police isolated him and called in the health authorities. They thankfully said that it was not ebola; they also said that there was nothing about it that could really have indicated ebola, but it shows how alert and very aware of the situation the police here are.

Back on the mainland, over the last couple of days a nurse who was involved in treating the priest and missionary at Madrid's La Paz-Carlos III hospital has herself been confirmed as having contracted ebola. Spain has activated its emergency protocol and she is now in isolation. The authorities say that this is the first known instance of transmission outside of Africa itself. As of today, the EU has demanded an explanation from Spain as to how the contamination was possible, but meanwhile, her husband has also been taken into isolation in hospital though he is not said to be displaying symptoms. In addition, a second nurse and a Nigerian patient, both with symptoms, are also in isolation in the same hospital.

If ever there was a reason to keep infected people where the infection is this has to be the one! Who's gong to save us from bleeding hearts, God squads, humanitarians and do gooders!
