El Corte Inglés is to close its store in Calle El Pilar near the Plaza del Príncipe in Santa Cruz. The "second shop" for El Corte Inglés has been in the centre of the city since the late 90s, but from 23 August, it will close and all staff transfer to its Tres de Mayo main centre. The company stressed that no jobs would be lost and said that the consolidation, which will be completed by 25 August, was needed to utilise the huge store's modern facilities to improve its customer offer and service. In the management-speak, however, many will almost certainly discern yet another sign of the unremitting economic crisis. JA

Beat me to it Janet :) For the life of me I can't understand why they kept it open for so long. We pass it every time we go to town and there always seems to be more staff than customers. Not sure who owns the building.
