The King of Spain has abdicated in favour of his son, Crown Prince Felipe, Spanish PM Mariano Rajoy has announced this morning. KIng Juan Carlos has reigned since his coronation in November 1975, and oversaw the transition from dictatorship to constitutional parliamentary democracy. The King had become increasingly frail and is said to have decided to abdicate when he reached 76 in January. The new King, Felipe Prince of Asturias, is married to divorcee journalist Letizia Ortiz, and the couple have two daughters, Leonor and Sofía. Assuming they don't have a son in the future, Princess Leonor  becomes the new heir to the Spanish throne.  Details on the coronation of Spain's new King Felipe will be released in due course. JA

It will be interesting to see who represents the royal family at the coronation.  Probably Charles & Camilla.  He must be sick of these events.

I thought they had changed the constitution so that as first-born, she would take priority over all others. Sexual equality and all that nonsense. Do I care?

Might be, certainly was the case in the UK with the Cambridge's firstborn, who turned out to be a boy anyway. Did Spain do lo mismo?

Those aren't memes, they are jokes.  Some 'journalist' wanted to appear trendy.

Fine - but you still don't say what a meme is. It is related to a YouYou or HeHe?
