Tenerife Whale & Dolphin Watch joins Global Empty the Tanks Day! for protest on 24 May

Tenerife Whale & Dolphin Watch has joined in with Global Empty the Tanks Day! for a protest event in the south to draw attention to the fact that it is not just Loro Parque that has captive cetaceans. The group will be handing out leaflets, and the event is planned as a peaceful protest which has been organized after consultations with the police and receiving their official approval. Local organizers say that they will also be following the guidelines provided by the "Empty the Tanks" global organizers.

Global Empty the Tanks Day! is on 24 May and the Tenerife Whale & Dolphin Watch has invited all who would like to participate to turn up at Aqualand Costa Adeje at 11am on the 24th. The peaceful protest will last until 1pm, and will see the group hand out leaflets and DVDs promoting the Global event. They will then move on to the Las Americas seafront. Organizers of the protest outside Aqualand Costa  Adeje say that it was a great day, with the protest peaceful as planned. To their great delight, two Sea Shepherds just back from Antarctica arrived to offer support: Ian on the Steve Irwin and Iru, who hails from from La Gomera, on the Sam Simon. One of the organizers said that their presence "made our day special, such an honour. We made some great contacts and everyone enjoyed it. It wasn´t busy but May is usually quiet. No one from Aqualand came out so proved how peaceful we were."  They are likely to repeat the protest, but say they are thinking through ideas to find inventive ways of making their point.
