no, all areas are the same, and for all, not just comunitarios ... registration on a padron is for a limited time, but it varies. In Guía it's 2 or 5 years (the girl wasn't clear this morning but I think it's 2 because it's around 2 years since we last renewed). And I was speaking to Adeje on Monday and they're the same in sending out letters ... as is San Miguel, or it's on the cards, and I don't know about Arona and letters but I do know the padron has to be renewed periodically, every three years I think in Arona. Point being is that it's all municipios, and for everyone ... :)

Just rang the BIL up. He's never had to re-new it nor the MIL. However he did say that each Town Hal can make their own rules up and it's been the practice for the past five or so years for councils in the South to request the renewal of the empadron due to the high concentration and turn over of foreigners who leave the island, or are recipients of government help 'Auda' from one council area but have moved out of that area without telling anyone. So this renewal is primarily aimed at foreigners but encompass all..... i hope?  :undecided:

Thats probably the reason we haven't had to renew anything. I do worry when I find that I may have fallen foul of the system :)

Thanks P, that is really good to know. I just knew it was all the southern ones ... now I know why! Thanks to Mrs P and the BIL!!

Well it's good to know they can be right some times! As I say after my very expensive run in with the Hacienda through no fault of my own I have mini panic attacks any time I think I may have missed something official that I should have done! I think this time I can breathe easy :D

We live in the same municipio as J & P and have been registered on the padrón over four years and have never been asked to renew.  For what it's worth.

Janet

maybe it is five years, then ...  :017:

It's only foreigners.

They assume a Spaniard will leave and register somewhere else, thus signing off automatically where they were.
The problem was the thousands of foreigners who just go home and stay in the statistics.
.
You want to know about Arona? . . . . . . . .  no letter, no warning, they just remove you. You turn up one day, after being registered in Arona for 25 years and you don't exist anymore.
.
If you take the trouble to point out that this is a little bit inconvenient . . .  they will tell you that it was published in the "Boletín Oficial" so technically you were warned.
.
If you then say . . . with just a teeny touch of sarcasm  . . . . that you read every issue of said Boletín as it is your duty as a citizen but you hadn't noticed this paticular item, and that there are people around who might not read it so perhaps an letter or an email might be helpful . . . let's say just the first time, just after they introduce the new procedure because it isn't the sort of thing that one might guess could happen. Ok Ok I know I could pop in every couple of weeks and ask if all traces of me have been removed from the council records . . . just in case . . . or read the fucking Boletín Oficial, I suppose I could . . .  but I really don't think it is asking too much to expect a modicum of service from you parasitic bastards. If you say that, you get . . . . . . . . . . THE CANARIAN SHRUG.

I would suspect the practice of singling out EU resident is highly illegal?

Janet

I need to check this because in Guia de Isora, confirmed today, it's everybody. I'm asking in Adeje ...

Guanche

I was guessing on the legality of it. Anyone any input before I start banging my head against the EU brick wall again :021:
