All I can say is it makes me so glad not to be German.  I've never said that before, I don't think.

I suspect it has far more to do with something wrong with their mentality. Any normal person would lounge around swimming pools displaying a disgusting amount of excess fat, shouting at people and drinking heavily, and generally behaving like a five-star slob. But lots of Germans have the perverse notion that getting off their arses and doing something constructive might be a better way of spending their time. I don't have figures, but if 99% of people who go hiking are German, it's hardly surprising that 99% of accidents involve them.

Another factor might be the extremely low standard of walking routes here in Tenerife. Whereas German hiking trails are extremely well laid out and generally well kept, the ones here are appallingly bad, so regular hikers are not used to dangerous hazards such as pebbles and other obstacles which require you to look where you put your feet.

I saw what looked like a military twin turboprop fly low over the coast here at Puerto Santiago this afternoon. I wonder what he was up to?  :undecided:
[countdown=01,06,2021,13,30][/countdown] until I return to Tenerife!

Seems to me it's getting stupid.  Can't they put an age limit on the barranco?  Like 60?
