I bloody hate calimas. 

There is a gale force desert blowing through my garden. Trees bent over double, humidity down to god knows what but bloody low so everything will have all moisture sucked out of it, everything will be covered (is already fucking covered) with sand and dust, stuff blown around the damn garden ...

Is it expected to last long?

The gales only last as it blows in, and that's normally just 24 hours. Thereafter, it depends how long it is before it clears. This isn't forecast to be a long one, but should be here throughout tomorrow as well.

The heat's bad enough, but it's the crap in the air that makes it hard to breathe, burns the eyes, makes you sneeze, dries the skin ...

Not far off that here yesterday I felt really ill - don't remember feeling like that in any kind of heat in Tenerife even my feet swelled arggghhh

well it's 31º and with heavy calima, but it's not as suffocating as I'd expected, and there's a relatively cool (at least not baking hot) breeze coming straight up the hill and through our back door ...

Not as bad as it could be!
