I may have discovered a typo in your post G.  It said "if I can get it off the wife"; is the word 'with' missing perhaps?  Surely warmer than a hot water bottle.

Speaking of which, I have no idea what happened to the one I had before we moved.  No idea if they even sell them here.

Bright and sunny 20deg in the shade. No wind, high Cirrus cloud. Sea still like a mill pond but what looks like a dense sea mist about three miles off the coast.

Did I ever mention that the first job I was selected for in the army was as a Meteorologist. I lasted about an hour before they realized I couldn't even spell meteorologist! I was quickly shifted to become a radio operator. Just thought I'd share

Yep, Royal Artillery radio operator. Four big radios and a telephone system in the back of a Landrover. Funnily enough one of the radios was a weather channel but it was in Morse and my Morse wasn't up to much all I can remember is ...---... which about sums up my military career!

Oh brilliant.  My friend the Major was in signals.  Did you ever do duty in Germany?

OH is a radioaficionado who got his licence in the UK once they dropped the Morse requirement.  He was an officer in infantry in SA so had guys to do his comms for him.  His Morse is about as good as his Spanish.  Don't tell him I said that.
