I thought the whole point of Tenerife is living somewhere where you didn't have to plan barbecues.  :undecided:

It might be handy if you are planning a barbecue or other event next week.  We get used to planning events for dry sunny days 2 weeks ahead here!

Yes mate, but the document above is a pre-alert for yesterday, starting yesterday, warning you that there might be an alert for rain, from 18:00 yesterday. Pointless and counter productive whatever way you look at it.

You seem to think I'm criticising Janet?

No, I find it quite entertaining and take it in the spirit it is meant.

Though from a meteorological point of view I am as confused as hell.

There has been quite a bit of speculation in the press and on social networks about a "hurricane in formation" to the west of the Canaries which was notified by the National Hurricane Centre in Miami. This had just a 20% chance of forming into a tropical storm, and was very unlikely to affect us even if so - the NHC is in Miami because that's where hurricanes head after starting in our area. All that really needs to be said about it is that this weekend's weather is an indirect effect of this system. which is today said to be weakening still further.

What is strengthening, however, is the front that was already forecast for the middle of next week. That is heading east and gaining force as it does so. There is nothing to suggest at present that it will bring conditions worse than last weekend, but official and amateur meteorologists are following it closely. Clearly we're going to have some weather worth reporting next Wednesday or so. JA

I'lll merge this into the main Tenerife weather thread shortly ...

Exactly my point.

With alerts every two to three weeks how can they mean anything?

Janet

The TF1 is like a river in the Guimar area ... a huge amount fallen in a few minutes. And now the forecast (orange alert  :-X ) is for 100mm this evening between now and midnight in south, east and west Tenerife.

You are quite right. We had an alert in my town Faversham (which has two tidal creeks) for the storm surge. OK the normal roads flooded but no worse than what normally happens on most spring tides. And in the past it was known and expected that this would happen a couple of times a year. Never ever heard of any alerts.  In fact I was trapped in a Pub all night many years ago on one of the creeks because we were flooded. No alerts, No Helicopters. Just a bloody big hangover next morning. Oh and a submerged company car.
