Aemet has raised the yellow alert for rain in Tenerife to orange level for this afternoon between midday and 6pm. Some 30mm per hour of torrential is forecast over the island generally but mainly in the east. This evening and overnight returns to yellow alert, with up to 20mm per hour forecast for the whole of Tenerife. JA

Not only that, we had to walk 5 miles uphill in both directions without any mittens or boots.

I've only just noticed this bit, which leaves me baffled. What gravitational oddity would make that necessary?

Well perhaps there was a bit of poetic licence.  The point is if they had closed the schools any time a snow flake showed up I would be illiterate and innumerate today.

Although the thermometer says it is 18.9 degrees inside, I am wearing a t-shirt, leggings, track suit top and bottom, hoodie, socks and my mid-calf high down boots.  And I am still cold.

Tonight I am making spicy red lentil, carrot and garbanzo soup and it is going to be delicious.
