Michael

I went for a walk along the coast today and it was mostly sunny and warm with a slight breeze blowing.

Teide was in cloud so therefore I assumed Janet was as well.  :D
[countdown=01,06,2021,13,30][/countdown] until I return to Tenerife!

Janet

oh yes, Janet is in cloud!  and rain ... and that's before the alert for "tormentas" comes into force ... :-X

It's 12º here now too! Full cloud cover ...

general chaos in the islands because of high winds, at least at altitude. The Teleférico is shut, no flights to La Gomera, ferries in difficulty off Lanzarote, a 30m pylon blown over in Gran Canaria ...

Here it's cold but total calm, at least in the western hills! Was in Palm Mar and Las Chafiras on Friday and by god it was windy. Don't know what it's like on the coast today!

Interesting. It was 15 deg here in N kent today.

When are they due to hit

Janet

well it's started ... access roads to Teide are closed because of ice, some councils have cancelled extracurricular school stuff, it's -6º at the observatory ...

Chance of showers increasing through the day apparently.

We had 7º this morning ...  :D

Is it meant to get any better by the weekend @Janet because we are flying out Sunday morning!! It's currently warmer in Kent than in Tenerife  :giggle:

The current forecast is for an "unsettled week" ... they don't do longer-term forecasts really because it can be so changeable.

Janet

Teide has had its first snows of 2018. Not too much, it must be said, but temperatures were below zero as the promised weather front swept in overnight. The forecast is for the unsettled spell to be with us much of this week, and at present some sections of some access roads to the National Park are closed because of ice on the carriageway. If anyone is thinking of going up to see some snow, check on the Cabildo road map first – there's a link on the winter weather post on my website. The map is constantly updated and shows where there are closures, and the reasons for them, though the Cabildo itself has requested the public to stay away from the caldera for the time being. The following photo is from Aemet at the Izaña observatory (click to expand).
