The Canarian Government's Health Department has issued an alert for health risk due to the high temperatures expected over the coming week in the archipelago. Sanidad asks the public to take the utmost precautions, and to take particular care of the vulnerable – the ill, or the very young and old – especially in the danger period between Monday and Wednesday. ´

The areas of Tenerife Sanidad's alert is most concerned with are Arona, Candelaria, Fasnia, Granadilla, Guía de Isora, Güimar, San Miguel de Abona, Santiago del Teide and Vilaflor. Meanwhile, Aemet has issued a yellow alert for high temperatures from Sunday for south, west and east Tenerife, extending to the whole of Tenerife on Monday. This could easily then become an orange alert, something that is already in place in the eastern province for Monday.

Wow that really is warming up! A lot of the Mediterranean countries are in the middle of a heatwave as well. My friend is in Tuscany and the last 3 days have all been 40 degrees.

Janet

same in Germany ... unbearable humidity as well, though at least there are regular thunderstorms to clear the air. But it's pretty stifling.

All this talk of temperatures in the 40s yet parts of Scotland are due a frost tonight!  :boyscarf: :girlsnowman:

I have copied this from a Tenerife blogger but I think it's an amazing picture of how the Saharan sand affects the Canaries.

it is amazing, indeed! a very famous NASA picture, that one. There's another which shows a scirocco, with the sand coming from further south and sweeping out and around the Canaries, coming in from the west.

One thing's for sure, whatever we get here, they get in Cape Verde with knobs on! I wouldn't want to be down there in the summer!
