Essentially the coastal strip is a different island!

I can confirm that.  I went for a run this morning on the coastal pathway between Playa la Arena and Alcalá.  It was stupendous!  The light from the sun was so bright and the air was so fresh.  Heading south, I watched the surfers in the water at El Varadero.  Looking up to my left was snowy Teide and the Pico Viejo.  Out to sea La Gomera was clear and there were fluffy white clouds.  When I turned around there were the cliffs of Los Gigantes ahead of me and once again I had to pinch myself that there was such a place on this earth and I was there.

Heard there was snow in Lanzarote !

Janet

yes, but they stress it was actually hail ... though even that is unusual.

I don't know why meteorologists are at pains to say that ...   :017:

How warm/cold is it in the evening if you need to go out I mean. What does one need to wear?

Janet

if you go out in summer t-shirt and thin trousers type clothes you'll need a fleece jacket or the like for the evenings.
