It's bad here today. We had snow, then rain, then snow and now rain again. Iv'e hardly had my central heating off for the last couple of months. In fact it would probably be cheaper to move to Tenerife for the winter than pay my gas bill  :D  I do miss a roaring open fire. So cosy.

I've just rechecked the thermometer and we have 19º, it's warmed up from this morning's 13º !

Wow, 13's a bit low.

Forecast 12 degrees here on Tuesday !!

It's gonna be a long wait between now and then I think. Currently 2 degrees and rain / sleet...

You're in the right place.

Janet

We know some Germans who come here for the winter because their total expenses here are just what they'd pay for central heating alone in Germany! I think real fires and stone floors are healthier than carpets and central heating really, I know when we're back in the UK I get snuffly after a week or so and it's not a cold. Here, it really can be cosy of an evening watching TV with a few candles and the fire blazing!

This is what it's like right now though, in the new and virtually finished pergola, looking out into the garden and up the hill.

edit: @TOTO 99  that's too cold for bloody comfort!  :scarfgirl:

That looks lovely @Janet . It was just pieces of wood laid on the floor when i saw it.

I stopped reading when you said stone floors are better than carpets..... :gonnagetit:

Janet

ah yes, @TOTO 99 ... sorry ... :giggle: :getmecoat:

@Anne 2009 yes it's been a major job but Perikles has done amazingly. There's just the edge of the roof to finish off now. I am very much looking forward to you seeing it again when you're over next. Maybe we'll have a BBQ here with @Myrtle Hogan-Lance and @Nova and relax in the pergola as it was meant to be used!!

Oh yes, lovely idea. It must had been a struggle, as that wood has some weight to it. Well done @Perikles it looks fabulous

I think real fires and stone floors are healthier.

Interesting, the latest studies in the UK indicate that open fires and especially log burners, are a real danger to the respiratory system, and the Mayor of London is seeking to ban them. I must admit where I live log burners are now the "In thing" but on still foggy days the acrid smoke smell can be a bloody nightmare.

Janet

maybe open fires ... ours is a "stove" so not open.
