After last night, Teide is wearing the first snows of 2013. It was so windy that we feared the snow wouldn't settle, and indeed today is lovely and warm so it's unlikely the snow will last, but for the moment, Teide is white! The snow, indeed, has resulted in a couple of road closures through ice on the carriageway. The TF-21 and 24 access roads via La Orotava and La Esperanza are closed while road maintenance teams work. They are expected to reopen by the end of the morning. JA

Beautiful day here, at the moment! clouds are beginning to form on the mountains but no snow. Other than that warm and clear blue skys :)

The TF21 La Orotava-Teide road has now been reopened, though the TF24 through La Esperanza remains closed for the time being. JA

And now the TF24 La Esperanza road is opened too. All roads clear and open.

I've mentioned before about closed roads that maintenance teams were "working to clear" them, and I thought it would be interesting to show what this actually means in terms of Teide access roads since the Cabildo has released the above picture of work yesterday morning on the TF21 and 24.

No wonder the roads are in such appalling condition.

There has been an area of low pressure approaching us for a little while now, and it has been centred over the Azores for the last few days. Meteorologists have been saying that it was unpredictable, and that it was impossible to know if it would affect the Canaries in any way. Now, it seems, it is likely to cause anything from a bit of an unsettled spell to a fair storm. At present there is no alert from Aemet, but rain and winds are expected to arrive here early on Sunday, lasting until Monday, according to the present forecast. JA

I think the storm over the Azores might make it rain a bit on Saturday afternoon.
The heavy shit is now forming off the east coast of America and will hit us on Sunday afternoon. Monday is going to be really horrid, all day .... expect lots of alerts and advice - extremely windy day.
Then by Tuesday midday it will have cleared up nicely.

Myrtle Hogan-Lance

Appreciate the warning.  Now I know I definitely should not clean up the mud the dogs tracked in from yesterday's rain before the next lot hits.  Black floors show every bit of dirt, sadly.

Janet

Well, there are two fronts, and there is now an orange alert for Sunday as well for rains, mainly in the south and west, of up to 30mm per hour, and winds gusting to 100 km/h, rising to 120 km/h at altitude. JA
