Madrid full of rubbish, according to the FAZ

The highly respected German newspaper the FAZ has a very hard-hitting article about the rubbish strike in Madrid ("The Capital of Rubbish"). The German article is reported on here in El PaĆs.

Essentially they say that Madrid has streets full of rubbish and a rubbish unelected Mayor, Anni Bottle.

One detail struck me. They reported a restaurant (or bar) owner being interviewed in front of his establishment surrounded by litter and rubbish. When asked whether he was going to resort to a broom to clear up the mess around his bar, he said no, rubbish was the responsibility of the city, not his. In principle, he was right, but it makes his establishment a filthy place to visit. I'm pretty certain that if there were such a strike in Germany, a restauranteur would automatically get his broom out and clean up around his property, just for pride's sake.

I think most people would. Then deposit it on the town hall steps.  :great:

I can't remember where I heard it or read it but I have a memory of a soldiers story of his journey through France and into Germany in WWII.
He didn't notice it until he got to Germany where he saw the public cleaning the streets. Piles of neat bricks, Iron and passable streets despite the bombings. It was then he remembered France, the compleat opposite.
