Guía de Isora Ayuntamiento says that the works on the "bajada a Fonsalia" spur motorway are going well, with a third of the road now already tarmacked and the Erques junction levelling works being finished off. This week works will start on the roundabout connection for the coast road. Works are expected to last until September, with the spur road opening before the end of the year.

Guía de Isora mayor Pedro Martín and the Canarian Government's Road Infrastructure director José Luis Delgado say that works have started on the roundabout to connect the Fonsalia spur motorway with the coast road. The roundabout is just after Fonsalia, before the entrance to Alcalá. Martín and Delgado say that the spur will allow people heading to Puerto Santiago and Los Gigantes to use the TF1 to the Vera de Erques junction rather than having to take the saturated road through Armeñime and Playa San Juan ... and Martín is still holding out for an Alcalá bypass at some point in the future. The spur motorway is expected to open in November.

We go through Piedra Hincanta. Will this route be better?

Janet

how do you go through Piedra Hincada @Marion ? Do you go up the Guía de Isora road and then turn down at Tejina de Isora? It's the only way you could go through PH to get to Puerto Santiago ...

Marion

We keep on the motorway in the new extension until it turns into a single carriageway going north and then take the cut off for Piedra Hincanta which brings us out on the south side of Play de San Juan.

Janet

but the new TF1 extension doesn't get to be a single carriageway ... do you mean where it becomes the three-lane chicken run rather than a four lane motorway? So you get off at the Tejina junction?

If so, then when the spur is open you'll get off at the junction before, the Erques junction, and the spur will take you down to almost Alcalá.

Yes, the three lane thingy. So would that be the one after the Piedra Hincanta turnoff when going north?

Janet

Heading towards Santiago del Teide, the Vera junction is the junction before the Tejina one, and that is the one that you currently take for Piedra Hincada. And by taking the spur, you'll not only be leaving the TF1 a junction earlier, you'll have straight motorway down to the coast, and will arrive even further towards Puerto Santiago than you currently do, in fact not just before PSJ, but just before Alcalá, much closer.

Marion

Sorry, being thick!  I take the junction before the Piedra Hincanta it this takes me on a good road to Alcala. That would be great. I've found all roads from the motorway down are horrible bendy ones that almost make me prefer the old road.

Janet

If you are asking what I think you are (should "it" read "if"?) then yes, you take the junction before the one you currently take. This is the Vera junction which will let you pick up the spur motorway at the end of the slip road. That will take you past Piedra Hincada (not Hincanta) and down to between Fonsalía and Alcalá.
