The Hemi Investment Group has presented a €30m project for a theme park in a former quarry in Güímar. The new Mimiland Park will be a development of some 200,000 square metres and will provide employment for some 2,000 people: according to agreements reached with Güímar, these employees will be  from the municipality itself. The park will include over 25 attractions, including a shopping mall, an auditorium for events and performances, a 5* hotel, and a mirador – a lookout tower set to become the highest in Europe.

The president of the Hemi Group, Andrés Alonso, said that all the paperwork had been submitted to the Ayuntamiento and they were now waiting for the procedural change of land designation. Sr Alonso indicated that a considerable number of obstacles had been presented both by the council and the Canarian Government, but that he was hopeful of getting approval to proceed in the next few months. He suggested that if agreement was not in place by mid 2014 the investment could be withdrawn. Güímar mayor Carmen Luis Castro dismissed the possibility of problems, however, and said that the Mimiland project would not only regenerate an area of illegal quarrying but also represent the economic regeneration of the town. Well it sounds very good but I find it hard to believe. If its the quarry I think it is its between the tunnel and the Guimar turn off going towards Santa Cruz.

Well if this is true and the political elite can control their greed and corruption  :undecided: it will be outstanding and a real benefit for the island. It is the site I initially identified. On the TF1 about quarter of a kilometre past the Guima tunnel on the left hand side as you travel towards Santa Cruz. The site benefits from good access straight off the motorway and its close proximity  (next door) to a large cement and stressed concrete beam and tunnel  factory. I would think that's it's at, or below sea level whether this is a help or not as I don't know it they use sea water?

It also benefits from the nearby Port of Guima which has recently had a face lift and work done on the black beach which now has larger break waters and an increase in the size of the beach.

Thumbs up from me! Wonder if I should re-evaluate the price of my house as I'm just 10 min away? :)
