Yachtsman seriously burnt after boat catches fire and sinks off Guía de Isora coast

A 30-year-old Russian sole yachtsman is in hospital today after his boat caught fire and nearly sank off Playa de Erques in Guía de Isora shortly before 10pm last evening. Emergency services were called with reports that the boat had caught fire, and the yachtsman was found to have suffered serious burns to a third of his body. Involved in his rescue were lifeboats and helicopters, paramedics and the Policía Local of both Guía de Isora y Adeje. He was transferred to Candelaria hospital where he remains in a critical condition. JA
