That's the current scoreline of Spain - Tahiti, the fifth time in Spain's history that they've won an international football match by 9-0. The only time it's been bettered was a 13-0 victory over Bulgaria lost in the mists of time ...

Five or so minutes left of the match. I reckon the Tahitians will be glad when it's over.

It's the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, by the way ... the winners of the six FIFA confederation championships (UEFA, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF, CAF, AFC, OFC), along with the FIFA World Cup holder and the host nation, to bring the number of teams up to eight. Italy are in it because they were runners up in Euro 2012, and Spain holds two of the confederation titles, i.e.  the World Cup and European championship .....

And what an absolutely fantastic spirit to end a game in. Every Spanish player shook the hand of every Tahitian one, and then left the field to allow the Tahitians to get the applause. Marvellous sportsmanship, Spain.

The only time they've met before was in the early stages of the 1998 World Cup when Nigeria won 3-2 ...

can't see Spain losing tonight though! They've come on a bit since then ...
