Los Cristianos' carnival is between 1 and 11 March, and this year's theme is that of the most famous Carnaval of them all: Brazil. Here are the details and programme ...

One of my readers has pointed out that although the programme shows the coso on Sunday, 10 March, as starting at 10.30am, this is in fact the start of the day with the exhibition of old cars. The parade itself, which I imagine is the event that most will want to go to see, is scheduled to start at 5pm.  It starts at Paloma Beach apartments (almost directly opposite the Arona Gran hotel) and will parade up Avenida Juan Carlos I past the Princesa Dácil hotel, left down Avenida Ámsterdam towards the Cultural Centre, and then on down Calle General Franco to Church Square.

Perikles

The insanely safety-conscious politicians have unanimously voted to ban the use of fireworks in future carnavals. How incredibly far-sighted of them.

Saida Prieto, the carnaval queen contestant who was badly burnt when her gown caught fire is coming back to Tenerife this Friday. She has been in the burns unit of the Hospital Virgen del Rocío de Sevilla since 7 February, where she is said to have made considerable improvement in her recovery over the last week. On her return, she will be admitted to the University Hospital to continue her treatment. JA
