Irishman dead in El Médano balcony accident

A 40-year-old man died just before 1.30am last night after falling some 10 metres from a third-floor balcony in Calle Tenerife in El Médano. Emergency services were called to the scene with reports of the accident, and found the poor man with severe head injuries and in cardiac arrest. Despite their best efforts, sadly they were unable to help him and he was declared dead at the scene. Police say that an investigation is in process, but the initial hypothesis is that a handrail on the balcony gave way. The Irish Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the man was Irish, and unofficial sources have identified him as Robert Delves from Dublin, who was on holiday in Tenerife. JA
