The Canarian Government has today temporarily renewed the moratorium on touristic licences. The current moratorium expires on 13 May, and the new extension is until 31 December this year, giving time to consider a new three year ban on touristic licences. JA

The moratorium on tourist licences was renewed in April until 13 December in order to give the Government time to get the new Canarian Touristic Law into place. For a while now it has been thought that there was insufficient time, and yesterday the Government acknowledged this by agreeing to extend the moratorium to 31 May next year, giving an extra five months for the new legislation to be studied and approved. The new extension avoids the tourism regulation vacuum that would otherwise have existed between the end of the moratorium and the introduction of the new law. JA
