Out of order or a sign of the times?

I agree that anyone with a sense of decency wouldn't do that.  To knock door to door asking for odd-jobs to earn money at least shows some self-respect and initiative, but just straight-out asking for money from people who are minding their own business at home is criminal disturbance and scrounging.

Your guy with the car does sound a bit weird Myrtle  :loopy:
If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know amazing.

I had a guy ring our bell some months back saying he had fallen on hard times and asked for money.  I said no.  I cannot stand begging in any way, shape or form and like Nova do not hand money to people who come to the door.  Except the fiesta committee; you can't avoid them.

About three months ago the bell rang again and this time it was a guy who said the ATM had eaten his card, and he had no money to buy petrol to get home.  He was standing outside his running car as we spoke.  He asked if I would come down to talk to him, which I declined.  I kept repeating I was not going to give him any money, then he got very huffy, jumped in his car, and sped off.

I think the first guy was a real beggar, and the second one just bizarre.

I didn't know there were lots of Romanians here.  I suspect the girl who begs outside LIDL in Adeje may be Romanian.  I've been shopping there nearly two years and she is there every single day, but naturally knocks off for lunch around 2.00.  With the amount of money people give her, I bet her income exceeds mine.

:pffff:

We've had that a few times up here Myrtle Once in Leroy Merlin and a couple of times in El Campo. Cars broke down and I need taxi fare so I can get home, run out of petrol but just spent all my money on food fro my children.............

 I'm going to plead vet's bills  :03: :03:
Ay tell me about it. Had a cat run over in August. Scraped it up and put it back together - cost so far 350€ and climbing.

I was wondering if there is anyone who could help me out a bit with that ..... you know, economically?

There's a guy hangs around my village begging for change.
He hasn't bothered me since I bought him a loaf of bread a couple of years ago.

poker

Few years ago when I was working at Playa Troya there was a Guy with a crooked leg begging on the main beatch walkway.
He earned more than me working my ass of.
Of course I had some pity for his handycap but the way he treated some peaple and his answer in Spanish when they did not give soon changed my mind.
Also everytime a police patrol pased he misteriusly dissapeared fast.

I rather support Professors cat,  but then I also have 2 cats in need.
Our red one lost an eye in a fight few years ago and it costed me also an arm and a leg.
So I'm handycapt also now ;) .

That reminds me of an off-topic but weird thing which happened to me on the farm in Wales. I was standing in the yard and had just decided to spruce the place up, to which end I counted that I needed 8 new farm gates. Just standing there, a lorry drove into the yard, it was a gypsy selling farm gates, and not only did he have exactly 8 gates left, they were the size I needed. He jumped from the cab and started crying - he had just heard that his mother was dying of cancer in Newcastle, unlikely to last long enough for him to drive there, and only by selling all these gates in the next 5 minutes could he have enough cash to get there ....."I'll take the lot" I said. He's probably still laughing about the stupid Welsh git who fell for that line.  :cheesy:

We used to get a guy who sat all sorry looking and poor outside our store selling the Big Issue. He was putting the customers off so he was asked to leave.

He shrugged and strolled across the carpark to his recent model BMW 7 Series.  :giggle:
