It's 1 June, and with the traditional start of the high summer season in Tenerife come the statistics from the Real Federación Española de Salvamento y Socorrismo for the first five months of 2017, and they are not good. Drownings go up year on year in the Canaries, and 2017 seems set to carry on the trend with 35 fatalities already this year, up from 31 in the same period in 2016. We are once again at the top of a very sad national league, and once again the overwhelming majority - 81% - have been foreign visitors.

Last year, 21 people drowned in Tenerife's waters, and 14 have already died so far this year. If you are intending to visit Tenerife's beaches this summer please read THIS safety advice before you do so. Please be aware that there are particular risks with the sea here in addition to those you would normally expect. There is no reason to stay out of the water, nor to enjoy the sea here, but but please make sure that you are fully informed about how to do so safely before you go in the water.

I was tootling down the TF-1 this morning when these stats came on air and I started laughing.  Laughing because, I knew it was coming, and it did:  for more details go to janetanscombe.com.

I had to laugh when i saw you had written Janet's name. It highly amuses me when a certain forum can only write it like this J a n e t  a n s c o m b e!! ffs, what is the difference!

In terms of the Harry Potter books you could say TF has put a Voldemort level taboo curse on my name ... anyone who mentions it without euphemism will find the Death Eaters appear immediately, use a Stun spell and hand the user over to the Dementors to have their soul sucked out of them!

:giggle:

I never did deserve that!  :voodoo:

I'd find it hilarious if my name were starred out over there!  I don't think they even know my name though

But no, the way that forum treated Janet was appalling.
If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know amazing.

I thought it was hilarious that they banned me simply by association (that, plus I called the administrator a complete dickhead, which was only fair comment). A forum where you got an infraction simply for disagreeing with the admin, even without ad hominem insults, is about as pathetic as it gets. I'm amazed it lasted as long as it did.

Actually, starring out Janet's name was a good example of the Streisand Effect. Whichever idiot was in control managed to raise her to a special status and made themselves look ridiculous. Exactly the opposite of what they wanted.  :great:
