I see that in future I'm going to have to give a Guardianesque commentary for interpretation on such things ...

When el presidente says "We are going to improve the roads to make it easier to move around and we will not give up when it comes to removing the obstacles that others may put in our way" he means :

"Fernando Clavijo, i.e. the Canarian Government, has PROMISED us that they will make the funds available to complete the ringroad - i.e. tunnel under El Tanque - so that there's a motorway around the entire island. Having made the inevitable promise, we KNOW that obstacles will suddenly appear, all designed to stop the Government having to fork out the dosh to fulfill their promise. We will NOT GIVE UP WHEN IT COMES TO REMOVING THE OBSTACLES ... " ...

It's a direct compromiso from the Cabildo to Tinerfeños, and a direct desafio to the Government in public, with all the Tinerfeños as witnesses ...

I like the jimjam commentary.  My saint, Lidia, is the patron saint of dry cleaners as we recently learned.  I think we may have to start "Lidia's thread" where the jimjam crowd can launder their dirties.......
